Last month's adventures

In the past month or so we have done: a fun art project with bottle caps.  Connor's is a garbage truck emptying a blue can into the hopper.
We did what we could to stay cool in a house without AC.
We played with the cousins' chickens.
We hung out being goofy, had doctor appointments and got shots, and played some new games.
On our drive to Utah we stopped at this state park which was celebrating its wildflower festival.  The kids played wildflower bingo, drew pictures with chalk, made a flower and played a tossing game with big bugs.

We enjoyed a 4th of July parade in Utah where they handed out free donuts out of the back of a giant donut truck.  There was also a bunch of candy thrown at the children, so they were quite happy.  I made Elise and Chloe matching skirts and Connor a pair of shorts to go with their new t-shirts.
Connor and Colby got their faces painted at a 4th of July festival and all enjoyed a Popsicle on the hot day.  Elise enjoyed playing with glow sticks while waiting for the fireworks to start.
We also had fun setting off our own fireworks and sparklers.  Chloe announced that the fireworks scared her and she went inside.
Peter enjoyed playing with uncle Rick's toy.  Peter thinks we need to have one too.
While in Utah we went to the Hill Air force Museum
Played at a splash pad...notice the big blue pipe aimed directly at Chloe...she got wet when it turned on suddenly.
We had family photos taken at this park.  We also fed the ducks a lot of bread.
We went looking for a U-pick apricot area, and ended up buying pie cherries (we usually buy the cherries in November and there aren't any cherries on the trees then.  When we walked up there was a big sign that said these were not U-pick cherries and there were no exceptions.  After we bought a couple bins of cherries and some fresh berries the owner said we could pick a few cherries from the trees (we didn't ask).  They were set to be harvested two days later.  They were tart cherries and they melted in your mouth-delicious!
On the way back Chloe devoured her basket of berries.
Later that night we went to a birthday party for Great Grandpa who was turning 90.  The California O's went as the Things 1-11.  We are the parents of Thing 6, 8 and 11.  Us adults had matching shirts as well that said Parent of the Things, but we were told the night before that this was to be a Sunday best wardrobe and therefore our shirts wouldn't be appropriate.  We were quite bummed as we ordered the shirts specifically for this occasion.  After we arrived many people were in jeans, t-shirts and shorts.  Great Grandpa showed up in a Hawaiian shirt...our shirts would've been fine.
Thing 1 carried Thing 11 the majority of the night.
The next morning we drove the 12 hours back home and arrived about 15 hours later.  Gotta love Vegas traffic and a few pit stops to let the children stretch their legs and go to the bathroom.

While at home we introduced Elise to some peas.  She loved smiling and then the food went into her mouth and she didn't like it one bit.  But smiled again as the one feeding her kept smiling.
Chloe said she wanted a pony tail like mommy's so I found some bands and tried putting her hair up.  I first tried pigtails and that was cute.  It lasted less than 5 minutes.  Then I tried one pony tail and that lasted a little longer.  I did one ponytail right in the front too, which looked awkward and she left that one alone the longest.  She has super fine hair and is a wiggle worm so these were her first hairdos.
Connor cut up some banana slices to share for a snack.
Elise managed to turn 5 months old when we weren't looking.

Our weekend

Connor and Chloe love playing in the backyard at grandma and grandpa's house.
Chloe has figured out how to go up the stairs.
She also goes down the slide by herself.
Though, she freaks us out when she goes near the climbing wall.
On Saturday we went to the beach looking for tide pools.  The tide pools were okay, but we had more fun climbing on the rocks and playing in the sand.
We also went to Cabrillo Monument and walked around a little bit.  We also went to the lighthouse.  Cousin Camille enjoyed following Chloe around.
Oliver got buried in the sand at the beach.
Kirk and Claire decided to go for a swim....and then proceeded to complain about how cold they were back to the car.  (We all knew that was going to happen.)

Week 3 crafts and Sailing Adventure

Clothespin caterpillars are easy and fun
Race car and TP octopus
We made a lot of popsicle stick dragonflies
Chloe LOVES strawberries and boysenberries from the garden and I'm really good at washing her clothes promptly afterwards.
Friday we had Kirk and Heidi over to play for the day.  Then Friday night Mary dropped 4/5 of her kids off with Sean and we kept Claire until Sunday afternoon.  Saturday Sean, Kirk, Heidi, Connor and Peter went sailing.  Claire and I worked on some crafts and went and bought some more stones to make bugs out of.  We had a great time.  We waited for Connor to get back to work on the stones, so we have added three more of the ladybug/bee/turtle stones to our front doorstep.

They saw a ton of dolphins and some whales as well.  They had a blast!  Connor couldn't stop talking about the boat that he went on and all the cool things he saw.

Bustin' a Move

Last weekend we drove to Arizona for my cousin's wedding reception.  We arrived Friday evening, changed clothes and headed to a nice restaurant where our kids were on their best behavior.  Seriously I can't believe Connor was so good for so long.  We chatted with several people and met others.  It was a fun night.  After being good for probably an hour, Connor started to get antsy.  Then one of the servers brought out paper and a pencil.  Daddy drew all kinds of trucks as Connor requested them.  This kept Connor's interest through dinner.  Then he had a really good dinner, and while waiting for dessert he threaded his napkin through the holes in the chair.  He had a great time.  Great uncle George had a great time playing this game with him as well.  Several times throughout the night people came over and said what well behaved kids we had.  They did an amazing job!  Poor Chloe was exhausted, but kept a happy face and smiled at anyone and everyone walking by.  We left the party early-roughly 9:30/10 and went back to the house to put kids to bed.

The house we stayed at was huge and totally designed for children.  My aunt and uncle got the house and invited us to stay with them and my cousins.  There were 5 bedrooms and a kids play room that was decked out.  Connor spent his free time either in the play room or out in the backyard playing with dirt and diggers.

Saturday morning the bride and her mom came over to the house to get their hair and make up done.  My aunt, Hera was busy in the kitchen making spanakopita and tiropita.  Saturday afternoon we drove to the bride's parents' house for the party.  Connor had fun bustin' a move with his aunt Abbie and my cousins Tasha and Alison.

Sunday morning, we cleaned up and left for our long drive home.

Easter

Easter was great.  Saturday we had an egg hunt at Peter's parents' house.  All the cousins enjoyed hunting for eggs and more importantly eating all the candies in the eggs.  I think Connor was the only one that went home with candy.  The big kids searched for eggs beyond the arbor, while the little kids didn't have to look too hard to find an egg.   Chloe even found an egg and enjoyed snacking on it.

Sunday the Easter bunny left us some pretty cool treats.  Connor got a side loader garbage truck to go along with his rear and front loader ones.  He was so excited, he wouldn't let anyone else touch it for awhile.  It even has a musher handle that you twist and the garbage gets pushed to the back of the hopper.  We have been having a great time making garbage out of junk mail for him to pick up.  Chloe got a bubble blower, which we've had a great time using lately.

This weekend we went out and picked strawberries from the garden.
Peter suggested we give Chloe a fresh strawberry in a mesh feeder...it was quite the mess to clean up, but I think she enjoyed it.  The sides of her chair and the floor looked like part of a crime scene.
