Train Fun

On Saturday we went to Old Poway Park for their Age of Steam event.  They had their steam engine that they've been restoring for a long time out giving people rides.  We got into an ore cart as the line was much shorter.  Here's some fun pictures of everyone all happy and smiling before the ride took place.
Connor and Daddy
Laurel and Camille
Claire, Ellie and I
The train took us around the park twice and on the second trip around it stopped and we all knew what was going to happen.  There was a hold up and these two people got off the train and then there was a gun fight that occurred.  The woman ended up being the hero in the end.  Unfortunately Connor is not fond of loud noises and the gunfight was just a bit too much for him.
Daddy please make it stop!
To cheer him up, we took Connor to the water fountain and let him play in the water for a little bit.  I think he'll think twice before getting on a train again though.
On our way out we stopped and Connor and Daddy got to sit on this antique fire truck with Dotty.
They also had antique cars on display, an organ grinder, and other old timey stuff-think Main Street Disneyland.  It was a fun day-minus the gunfight.

Our big boy

Connor learned a new trick this weekend...we were hoping he wouldn't notice the ladder for a bit longer.  He's such a big boy-what happened to my baby?
Why yes he climbs ladders, plays with the steering wheel and then turns around and goes down the slide feet first on his belly.  Then he gets up and repeats.
He also really enjoys playing with this big wheel car.  The battery for the car is broken, but that doesn't stop him from pushing it around with the help of his cousin...in fact he's got his cousin well trained.  Bubba often pushes Connor in the car, and Connor loves it.

Easter

Last Saturday we took Connor to his first egg hunt. He was a bit clueless as to what he was supposed to do, but eventually caught on.
My spaceship is a tad small
Look at all these bright eggs
Connor would pick up one egg, put it in his basket, take it out of his basket and put it back on the grass and then repeat. We picked up a few eggs and placed them in his basket and he continued to pick up the same egg and put it back on the grass. That was until he opened up an egg and sampled what was inside.
Woah this stuff tastes good
Afterwards we went home and took a nap. After the nap we went over to grandma and grandpa O's house and played with the cousins. I had picked up this water snake the day before and had it in my car. The girls wanted to be sprayed with the hose and I offered the snake to play with. It was great for the 5-10 minutes before it popped. Nobody was touching it or near it when it popped, it just let loose. Oh well-It was a fun toy while it lasted.
It was really cold out, but I played for a little bit too
Then on Easter Sunday we had lunch with my family and then dinner with Peter's family. Connor's basket had some jelly beans and peeps and a chocolate bunny. Behind it was a cool bucket full of sand toys and some sidewalk chalk. The bucket was almost the perfect size to sit in.
That brings us to today. We went to the Wild Animal Park again. Tomorrow is the last day to see the butterflies so we needed to go see them one more time before they leave. Yesterday was very rainy and this morning was a bit rainy too which meant almost no crowds. We parked in the front row, right across from the entrance and walked right in. We saw the butterflies first. Peter had a friend land on his hat and I got one on my jacket as we were exiting.
Afterward we went on a tram ride. Then it started to rain a bit and we were cold so it was a good time to call it quits.

Spring Break

I had spring break last week and enjoyed having the time off of work. We spent the first few days running errands/shopping/playing around and enjoying a cool treat.
Check out the static cling hairdo
Then on Wednesday I dropped my car off at the mechanic as it needed some desperate TLC. Then my dad, Connor and I went to the Wild Animal Park. We had fun feeding the ducks and petting the goats. One goat gave Connor a friendly (or not) love tap. We decided to leave that goat alone and go see some nicer ones.
While walking around near the elephants we heard a large splashing noise. We walked up the ramp to check it out and were excited to see six elephants going for a swim.
Once the trainers started to leave, the elephants decided to get out of the water and follow where the people were going. They had buckets so it looked like it was lunch time.
Then we went to the butterfly exhibit. This was our main purpose for going to the park. You have to get separate tickets to enter the exhibit at a certain time (these tickets are free). We got to the park around 11:30ish and our tickets to see the butterflies were 3:15-3:45. We arrived right at 3:15 and entered the exhibit.
Connor found a friend
Connor started melting down towards the end. He was totally clueless that he had another friend on his hat.Once out of the muggy exhibit we walked by the carousel and decided Connor would have just enough juice left to ride the carousel with grandpa.
He promptly fell asleep on the way home.

Our Budding Photographer

Connor has figured out how to work our camera. He was snapping pictures like crazy last night. Here are a few that he took. I left them exactly the way he took them-no rotations or anything. Not bad for a nearly 17 month old.

The wall
My feet
My arm
Wow look at that...That's me!

Millenium Falcon

So Peter has been wanting one of these for awhile. He looked online and in stores and the going rate is about $140. So his dreams of owning one was put on hold. I asked him what he wanted for his birthday and he couldn't come up with anything. He had made up his mind that this was too expensive and he wouldn't get much out of it to make it worth it. So for his birthday he got some of his favorite candies, a shirt and a book.

Friday evening there was a big box at the door. He told me he went ahead and bought it from Amazon for slightly cheaper. Friday evening he set to work putting it together and he finished it up during the Saturday afternoon session of conference. Then he started flying it around the house while humming/singing the theme song. I told him to wait so I could grab the camera. He then put his toy down and said he wouldn't play with it if I was going to video tape him. Later he was playing with it again so I took some pictures. Then while he thought I was taking pictures I switched to video mode and got a short video. He said I couldn't post it, it would be too embarrassing. I reminded him that Fred Leavitt (my friend's dad) has a Star Trek ornament collection. And I wouldn't be surprised if he gets them out and plays with them at Christmas time.
Here's my big kid playing with his toys. Video posted with permission after convincing him it wasn't too embarrassing. Peter says if I ever video him flying the Falcon around the house, THAT for sure will not be posted. Today Connor was laughing at his daddy while this giant ship took flight in our family room.
