Friends came to visit!

On Thursday evening Melissa and Vince arrived from Arizona.  Peter and Melissa were college buddies.  Melissa had a librarian's conference to go to in Anaheim and since we're only 1 1/2 hours away they decided to stop and visit with us a little and see San Diego.  On Friday we toured the USS Midway.  Vince really wanted to see the airplanes.  He was like a kid in a candy store...so excited.
This glassed in area made you feel somewhat uneasy.  Step on and look straight down to the inside of the boat.  Connor was more interested in the chain.
 A big plane
Next we went to the World Famous San Diego Zoo.  Peter kept telling Melissa and Vince that our Zoo was world famous.  Then on the bus ride around the park, the driver said something along the lines of welcome to the world famous San Diego Zoo.  We thought it was funny.
Look at all those happy critters
The Polar bears were out having a bit of fun.
There's a baby giraffe on the right sitting down.
 Mama and baby Jaguar
Above-Melissa and Vince on the Skyfari, below Connor and Daddy on the Skyfari.
We left the park totally exhausted, grabbed dinner and then Melissa and Vince left for Anaheim.

On Saturday we ran errands and then went to Sea World for a couple of hours.  Connor made friends with a seal.

Connor loved Elmo's Bay of Play area.  It was roughly 8pm and Connor was having a blast playing in the water.
Saturday evening Melissa and Vince came back.  Sunday morning we went to church and then headed home to put on comfy clothes and then headed out for a little more sight seeing.  We stopped and walked along the temple grounds.
Then we went to La Jolla Shores to see the seals at the children's pool and were shocked to find people playing at the children's pool and no seals!  The seals were further out lounging on a rock or many were swimming in the water with the scuba divers.  I've never seen the seals get that close to people before.  After the seals we went to Mount Soledad to see the war memorial and the really nice view.  Then we went home and Melissa and Vince left for their 6 hour journey home.
Later Sunday evening we went to Alex's homecoming party at the Leavitt's.  Connor enjoyed playing with Landon.
Here are some fun videos we took.  The first one is the dolphin show at Sea World.  All the high pitched screams are Connor.  He thought it was just wonderful when the dolphins jumped out of the water.  The second video is Connor playing in the water.  The third is Connor showing us how he jumps while we're at the temple.

Father's Day

Yeah I know I'm a little behind on the posting here, but I thought it would make more sense if I kept the posts in order.  So here's Father's Day, in a couple of days I'll post about this past weekend, and then maybe by the weekend you'll get the fun we've had for the week....my first week of summer vacation :)

So Father's Day
We ended up going over to Peter's parents' home.  Connor really likes playing in water, so he went for a "swim" in a bucket of water and squirt toys.  He also enjoyed running through the water while Grandma watered her plants.

When water play was over dinner was ready.  We got Connor all cleaned up and sat down for dinner.  At the end of dinner the guys went out for a walk while the gals cleaned up.  When they returned Connor tried climbing on a chair and I noticed that he had what looked like poop marks on the back of his clothes.  Peter then says, "Grandpa and I took turns carrying Connor on our shoulders during the walk."  Peter turns around and Laurel and his mom tell him he has poop on his shoulders.  Not believing them he asks me...yep you do.  Still in disbelief he runs to a mirror and takes a look...sees it and starts grossing out.  David is also checked and his shirt was the worst.  David hopped in a shower and Peter was handed a new shirt.  I took care of Connor...it was the biggest poopy diaper I've changed in a long time.  No wonder it leaked so badly.  We then decided it was time to go home.  Peter needed a shower and Connor needed a bath.  It was an unexpected Father's Day gift :)

San Diego County Fair

Yesterday we went to the San Diego County Fair.  Peter's sister Laurel works there and got us free tickets so we took advantage of the offer and went to the fair.  Peter and Connor went last year, but it had been at least 15 years since I went last.  After we arrived we put sunscreen on Connor and then boarded the bus to take us from the free parking to the fairgrounds.  When we arrived we noticed Connor had gotten a free tattoo.  Peter was holding the fair pamphlet and the ink rubbed onto Connor's sun screened skin and stuck.  It took two baths to finally get most of it off.
We checked out the animals first.  There were rows and rows of chickens.  Some had fluffy feathers others looked pretty normal, this gal had a great hairdo.
We saw some sheep getting sheared, then they put jackets on them or big shirts.
I liked the garden area.  This was a cool design...three leaves held up like this with rubber bands.
I thought it was quite neat looking.
I think this one won second place.
Down the center of the room were tables lined with Dahlias, roses, orchids and many more.
After taking a look at the inside garden we headed over to the stage where David and his troop were doing some folk dancing.
Connor enjoyed a splash fest in the fountain.
He thought the water tasted pretty good too.
Then we went to the woodworking area.  I thought this was pretty awesome.  All the different colors of leaves are pieces of inlaid wood.
Peter loved this, also all different pieces of wood.
Then we went to the outside garden.  I really liked these too.  This year's fair theme is Out of This World.  So here we have E.T. in the garden.
This is a picnic with helmet aliens-it took first place.
An astronaut made out of watermelon, zucchini and tomatoes.
Succulent chairs
A new drip water system with zucchini growing out of it.
Another fun succulent garden
Connor and grandpa feeding the cow.
 Connor enjoyed feeding the animals.

After an extremely short morning nap on the way to the fair, he crashed as soon as we got in the car to head home.
We were all exhausted!  It was a great day.

Ikea

We went to Ikea today.  Connor had a blast playing in the kid's section.  He really enjoyed playing with this mini kitchen and all its accessories.  Connor pulled all the pots and pans out of the cupboards and started playing with them on the stove.  The stove had two little buttons that when pushed in the burners would light up.  I thought that was pretty cool and Connor agreed.
Check out all the food accessories.  These were super cute.  Notice the fish filet.  There was a hamburger kit, veggie and fruit kit, sweet tooth kit, and a breakfast kit.  There were also packaged pans/pots with lids, rolling pins, egg beaters, spatulas, etc. all kid sized.
"Santa" took careful note of the toy Connor played with more than anything else.

The past few days

While out walking with Daddy, Connor spotted the waterfall next to the pool.

Laurel came over on Thursday and brought several beets with her.  David and Diana are out of town so their garden is free range :)  Connor really enjoyed the beet. He also fell down and got a big bruise on his forehead.
Right after vacuuming the house Connor thought it would be fun to go outside, and uproot some geraniums and carnations.  He then stomped through the soil and across the carpet.  Why is it that he chose to do this after I had vacuumed?
Connor went into the cupboard and pulled out what he wanted to drink with dinner.  It was really cute, he tried holding it up for Daddy but it's really heavy (I missed the picture on that one) so he sat down and started to play with the bottle instead.
This morning we went over to water the garden for Peter's parents.  While we were there we picked a zucchini, some peas, an apricot and Connor spotted the blueberry bush.  He enjoyed a few blueberries.

I was looking at another plant which kind of resembled beans (yet there weren't any bean sprouts) I was down low and picked up part of a plant and in a flash a little bunny went flying out from basically where my hand was and darted across the yard.  Needless to say I screamed and jumped back.  Man he was fast!  Peter laughed, "It's only a little bunny."  I wasn't afraid of the bunny, it just caught me by surprise.  He later said, "Yeah I probably would've screamed too."
